Painting Final

.) I think this watercolor project was most successful. The theme was watercolor and flowers. First I splatter painted the bottom "grass" part and then colored the top flower in, dripping down the black. I used puddling, splatter and resist. I like the size of the paper itself, I think it made the flowers look well spread out. I like the thickness of the splatter at the bottom and the fading of it as it goes. I like the hippie feel of the painting with all the colors and contrast. Although it was an idea from pinterest, it turned out really nice in real life and is better than my other one. I really like it and it turned out really successful, yay.

.) I think this watercolor was the project where I overcame the most obstacles. I had to draw the eye first, but I wasn't able to actually draw the eyelashes since they would be painted over first. I painted the eye before figuring out it didn't look as realistic and then had to redo it to look more like a real eye. The watercolor kept sliding so it was hard to keep the lines going where I wanted to. The eyelashes were the hardest because they had to be done perfectly the first time, there was no going back. Taking those risks made me a better artist by being able to get what I needed done right the first time. I also became more spontaneous and able to take more risks. I do like how this turned out despite the hardships I faced in making it.

.) I think these two projects show how I've grown as a painter and artist this year. This first one was my texture painting. I had to draw the vines, glue the vines, then paint the vines along with everything else I did. It took a lot of patience, time and effort. I had to grow as an artist to not give up and work hard, managing my time well. It shows how I did learn to manage time, paint carefully, and design my projects well. The second one is my ceiling tile. This has been a real pain in the butt. It shows, though, how I was able to blend my colors well. If anything, I've become best at blending all my colors. This isn't the finished product, it's my background only, but it's my favorite part. I really like how I managed to transition the sky to become a sunrise/sunset figure. I became better at subject matter, intuition, artistic value, and technique. Especially technique, where I learned to paint and blend colors well. I also became more creative, such as choosing to do, instead of a regular view of the Eiffel Tower, to do a view of looking up at it, and choosing to do the design of vines around elephants in the center.

.) I think the new way of teaching and learning worked very well for me. It gave you more freedom when making art of your own and made the art your own individual work. When we did watercolor, I liked being able to choose my own techniques while making artwork. I feel like it made it better, more unique, and definitely my own project and not just a generic painting. Even though we have to have them approved, it made really cool products, especially the acrylic texture and watercolor projects. Everybody had a different project, all their own thing. It put more of the student itself within it and less of just following a piece of paper. Creative freedom is very effective in a painting class, and I think it worked especially well this year. I definitely like it better and improved more from it.
